Denial. Not just a river in Egypt anymore

"...and that's why they have to work very hard to make sure people can't copy money."

"Mom, can we go out after breakfast and buy me a WebKinz?"

"---?"

"It's been over a month since I got a new one. I really need a new one."

[pause & blank stare] "You have plenty of WebKinz" (like 50 or 200. I've lost count and just keep stepping on them wherever I go) "eat your breakfast."

[Breakfast is cleared, I'm doing (ahem) research on the computer]

"Mom? I'm going to go get dressed so that we can go shopping for my new WebKinz!"

"What? We're not--"

[flying up the stairs] "YAAAY! Going to get dressed now!"

"But... no"

"We're going!!! Yay! Hey, Stewie needs a new one too!"

"What? Hey! Stop it! We're not going anywhere"

[a little later]

"So are you going to get dressed so we can go?"

"I'm not going anywhere. No one said anything about going anywhere for WebKinz but you."

"Stewie said so too"

"Does Stewie have a drivers' license? Does he have a bank account?"

"No." [barely skipping a beat] "Dad? Are you ready to go?"

We're NOT going. I think.

  3. coincidently, the hurricane and i had almost the same conversation last evening. except it wasn't a webkinz (wtf are they, anyway? makes me think "gremlin" but not when they were all ugly and funky looking, more like when they were cute and looked like a cross between an ewok and an owl, only i can't remember what they were called when they weren't gremlin-ey), it was a toy of unspecified type.

after much pestering, i finally told the kid that i was not going to drive into town to get him a toy, so he promptly asked his dad (sitting next to me on the couch) to take him to "tinidian tire" so he can spend his fat wad of "tinidian tire money"

unfortunately for the kid, dad is the "ass, grass or gas" type and nobody rides for free. visa, mastercard, and tinidian tire money accepted.

it's tough being a kid. especially when your dad is ruthless enough to clean you out of every last red ten-cent piece of paper, leaving you with no money with which to buy a toy.

  4. oh MY GOSH.
I didn't know what webkinz were either, so I googled it and TOOK THE TOUR.
    hee hee hee.

I immediately sent the link to my daughter at college so she could be up to date on the newest cool toys for the 10 and under crowd.
thanks for letting me peek into the land of the little people. [feels nostalgic...then gets over it because she remembers her kid buys her own toys now]
